Tamer Marzouk, The two-time Egyptian tourist bureau director, moves from the Egyptian Tourist Authority in Cairo to the German private sector and founded the agency MIMC – Marzouk Integrated Marketing Communications – in 2017 as private sector interface between the German and the Egyptian travel industry.
Marzouk held the position of Tourism Attaché at the Egyptian Consulate in Frankfurt from June 2007 until June 2011 and was thus responsible for the German. From May 2015 until November 2016, he was appointed Embassy Counsellor for Tourism at the Egyptian Embassy in Berlin and responsible for the markets Germany, Austria, Switzerland market and Poland. His current move to the private sector is an extraordinary step which fits perfectly into the CV of the Egyptian visionary.
As one of Egypt’s youngest diplomats on foreign deployment, he is a record holder at the same time. In his starting year as Tourism Attaché, he increased visitors’ figures from Germany from 900,000 in 2007 to one million in 2008 and thus passed the magic million mark for the first time in Egypt’s tourism history. He finished his term of office with another record of 1.3 million tourists in 2010.
In the restructuring of the worldwide Egyptian Tourist Authority ETA representative offices in 2015, he was again selected to represent the ETA in Germany, this time from the former Egyptian tourism minister Khaled Ramy. He was heading the tourism bureau as first director general for the then clustered markets Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and Poland, which represented the largest key market area in Egyptian tourism.
Marzouk could revive the weak tourism business that suffered from the revolution with the support of the whole German travel industry and travel media and, in 2015, passed the one million German visitors‘ mark again.
Further, Marzouk is responsible for many b2b pioneer projects in Egypt – for the first QTA Convention in 2007, the first DRV Congress in 2009, the first Der- tour Academy in 2010, for the establishment of a whole Egypt hall at ITB since 2011, for the ITB-Partner Country Campaign in 2012 and also for set up of the Egypt Golf Trophy in 2008, which as of now, almost a decade later, belongs to the most popular golf tournaments in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.
During his time at the Egyptian Tourist Authority, one of Marzouk’s priorities was to place his country as a hotspot for international b2b and b2c mega-events. In 2014, he was responsible for the organization of the historical QTA Convention in Luxor and in 2015, he established the first official „Egypt Champions Cup“ of the German smart Beach-Volleyball championships in cooperation with the TV channel Sky. Further consumer events which he supported fall into the category of model camps like Miss Germany and Austria Top models. Furthermore, he restarted the Egypt image campaign in 2015 and 2016 after a long pause.
Since 2017, Marzouk has utilized his expertise, knowledge, and extensive network in tourism PR, advertising, events, and b2b & b2c collaborations. He serves Egyptian, Arab, German, and international tourism clients looking to establish, develop, or bolster their presence in the DACH and European markets. Conversely, he aids European companies seeking to enter or expand within the MENA region, particularly the GCC and Egyptian markets.
